What our parents are saying!

"I have spent a lot of years and money hearing about all the issues my son struggled with in school, hoping he would get the attention he needed. Having an open mind and thinking outside of the box was the best thing I could have ever done for my son . Your homeschooling program has been the best thing for Micah and our family." - Annmarie Semonian

                                                 Important information about accreditation:

Pacific Ohana Academy has never applied for WASC accreditation. I have worked with WASC many times in the past. No school with less than 15 students is eligible for WASC accreditation (the only actual accreditation bureau. All others are fraudulent).

We are, however, a registered California High School and our name appears right on the drop down menu for applications to ALL California public colleges and universities.

Here is our entry at Calif Dept of Education:

https://www.cde.ca.gov/SchoolDirectory/details?cdscode=19647336142756

Well, for the last ten years, our students apply to college like they would anywhere else and THEY GET IN every time except once when the student applied to a school in the UK (Sussex U).

BUT because we are not allowed to apply for accreditation (which i would never do for a number of reasons) no school HAS to accept our credits.

HOWEVER

I no longer urge students (our students or ANY students) to go straight into 4 year universities. As a past instructor at Cal (Berkeley) I can tell you that large research institutions do not do a good job with undergraduate educations. Community colleges that I have taught at, like CCSF in San Francisco, do an amazing job in this area and provide far more learner support at a greatly more flexible schedule and 1/10th of the price, but they must do it with a matriculation agreement.

Let me give you an example: Let's say  a student wants to get into UCLA performing arts. When they apply to any public CA university our name is right on the application.

But the chances of getting into UCLA Performing Arts this way are almost zero for ANYONE from ANY school outside of California.

Chances are BETTER from our school because CA HS students get additional points to their applications but still, it's very competitive. The BEST way is to apply to a great community college like Santa Monica College, which is OPEN ENROLLMENT, and immediately begin their articulation/matriculation program for UCLA. This is an agreement with UCLA (or any major CA university) that guides students through taking ONLY the correct transferable course for their intended major at UCLA. This way they have more help in each class, more tutoring availability, and at considerable savings.

Once they finish their articulation/matriculation agreement, they apply to UCLA. This program has about a 78% success rate from Santa Monica College. Students then enter UCLA as a Junior and transfers of this sort have a very high success rate.

Some of our students prefer to apply to UH and skip community college. Both students who tried that in the last 4 years got in first try at UH Hilo and UH West.

What our parents are saying!

"Our son looks forward to completing his senior year and is excited about going to college. But most of all, the self confidence we saw disappear when he was in private schools has been restored." - Timothy Waite

" I am so thrilled that our son is at Pacific Ohana! He is really thriving, and thinking so deeply now, that I feel he really has excitement about living to his full potential and given purpose in life." -  Teresa Nielsen
